David McDowell courtesy Lincoln PenningtonDavid McDowell recently took the position of policy coordinator for the Mississippi Coalition Against Domestic Violence, a position from which he hopes to make a “new conversation” about domestic violence in the state move to the policy level in the state legislature.

The Jackson Free Press quotes McDowell saying: “I took this position because I wanted to help make conversation become policy from the point where the rubber hits the road all the way up to our Mississippi senators and congressmen.”

Baria-Jones attorney Brandon Jones has long been an advocate for domestic violence initiatives while in the state legislature as well as after returning to full-time private practice, and was pleased to encourage McDowell to take the position. The move is an important step to better legislation to protect and provide relief for victims of domestic violence—and to try to keep the violence from occurring the first place.
