Baria-Jones, PLLC attorneys David Baria and Brandon Jones served as members of the Mississippi Friends of Civil Rights, an organization formed to support the new Mississippi Civil Rights Museum in downtown Jackson.
Mississippi Friends of Civil Rights organized a gala event on February 23-24, 2018, which took place at the Jackson Convention Center and at the museum complex. Friday’s event featured Congressmen John Lewis and Bennie Thompson, Rita Schwerner Bender, Ruby Bridges and Representative Robert Clark, among others. On Saturday, Senator Corey Booker, Congressman John Lewis, Congressman Cedric Richmond, Representative Sonya Williams-Barnes and Derrick Johnson, national president of the NAACP, all spoke.
“The museum is a tremendous resource that will challenge generations to come not to forget. It’s a crown jewel for our state and the city of Jackson. It meant a lot to David and me to be able to support the museum’s work,” Brandon Jones said.
On Wednesday April 25, 2018, Baria and Jones joined friends and colleagues with the Mississippi Friends of Civil Rights in presenting a check in the amount of $30,000 to the museum. These proceeds were raised during the gala and are designed to support programming and outreach at the new museum.
