As the U.S. Senate took up confirmation of Judge Brett Kavanaugh in late September, David Baria, candidate for the U.S. Senate from Mississippi, criticized both sitting Senators for their comments about women who had made allegations of sexual impropriety against Kavanaugh.

The criticism was in response to Hyde-Smith saying on the floor of the Senate that accusers were engaged in “character assassination” and Wicker tweeted support of Hyde-Smith, suggesting that testimony from Dr. Christine Blasey Ford didn’t even need to be heard.

As the Jackson Free Press reported, David Baria tweeted with the hashtag #BelieveSurvivors, pointing out that comments and tweets made by Wicker and Hyde-Smith didn’t suggest that they “had an open mind about what the women had to say.”
